Senate President Juan Ponce-Enrile said in a press conference that the Senate impeachment court has decided to admit as evidence Chief Justice Renato Corona's bank records, denying the defense panel's motion that those be suppressed for being "fruits of the poisonous tree."
He said that the Constitutional provision against unreasonable searches and seizures only applies if it was done by the government or its agents.
Enrile also said that "there's no clear showing that it was done by the government." "So far, as the facts indicate, there's no question that these alleged bank deposit accounts exist. And if the release was done by private parties, this will not be covered by the Constitutional exclusion rules," he added.
Senators Miriam Defensor-Santiago, Manuel Villar, and Aquilino Pimentel III were absent.
